DIY: make natural bathroom products yourself

Did you know that you can easily make eco-friendly and natural bathroom products yourself? Think of cleaning products for your bathroom, but also fine creams for your skin, for example. In this blog we tell you everything you need to know about natural bathroom products and how to make them yourself.

Why you better choose natural bathroom products

Traditional cleaning products are full of chemical substances that are not always good for people and the environment. By making your own cleaning products from natural ingredients, you can be sure that you do not inhale any harmful substances during cleaning. You create less waste for the environment (especially when you use a reusable bottle for your homemade cleaning product!) and save a lot of money. Making it yourself is much cheaper.

You can also get started for your face and skin yourself. Think of fine creams, scrubs or even shampoo you can make yourself. The advantage of making your own care products is that you know exactly which ingredients you are putting on your skin. Moreover, you can often determine the smell and structure of the product yourself. Here too you save a lot of money, but it is above all a fun and creative activity.

Get these essentials at home

Are you going to start making natural bathroom products yourself? Then be sure to get these essentials at home:

  • Vegetable oils, such as coconut oil, almond oil, olive oil. These often form the basis of beauty products.
  • Soda (also called sodium carbonate). This is a good substitute for chlorine. It cleans, degreases and has a disinfecting effect.
  • Baking soda (also called baking soda or sodium bicarbonate). A real panacea: you can clean with it, but you can also use it to make deodorant or toothpaste yourself.
  • Cleaning vinegar, to clean with and to remove bad odors.
  • Marseille soap, a natural soap that serves as a good basis for cleaning products.
  • Ox gall soap, a natural but strong stain remover.
  • Essential oils, which you add to give your natural bathroom products a nice scent.

You can find almost all of these products in the supermarket. Can't find what you're looking for? Then take a look at the Anne Drake webshop . There you will find all the necessities for zero waste bathroom products.

Do you want to make your products as eco-friendly as possible? Then store everything in reusable bottles and jars and use old t-shirts as a cleaning cloth.

Eco-friendly and natural cleaning products for your bathroom

Ready to give your bathroom a cleaning? With these Do-it-yourself cleaning products you can make your bathroom spic and span again!

All-purpose cleaner

  • 30 grams Marseille soap
  • 1.5 liters of water
  • 3 tbsp soda

Grate the soap over a pan with 1.5 liters of water and bring to the boil for 5 to 10 minutes. Add a few extra spoonfuls of baking soda to make it an extra powerful cleaner. Leave the whole thing in the pan overnight and pour it into a jar the next day. The texture should feel a bit like pudding. Use it directly on a sponge or dissolve it in a bucket of water to make soapy water.

Glass cleaner

  • 500 ml of water
  • 500 ml vinegar
  • Add a few drops of eco detergent

Pour everything into a spray bottle. Shake it up and it's ready to use.

Anti-fungal bathroom cleaner

  • 500 ml of water
  • 4 tbsp soda
  • 8 tbsp cleaning vinegar
  • 10 drops of tea tree oil

Bring the water to a boil and add all the ingredients to the water. Stir until everything is dissolved. Let it cool down a bit and then pour it into a spray bottle. With this anti-fungal bathroom cleaner you don't remove aggressive fungi that have been in your bathroom for months, but it does remove superficial fungi and ensures that new fungal spots stay away.
